Dean has over 38 years of diverse experience in evaluating oil and gas properties, including more than 25 years applying numerical modeling approaches to these evaluations. Prior to joining RSK, Dean was the Chairman and CEO at Ryder Scott Company, L.P. Dean began his career as a production engineer at Chevron and worked at Gruy and Intera. He received a B.S.P.E. degree from the University of Oklahoma, an M.S.P.E. degree from the University of Houston, and an M.H.M degree from the Hilton College at the University of Houston. Dean has published various papers related to reservoir modeling, including its application to reserves reporting. Dean has also presented at various industry forums such as SPE, AAPG, SPEE, SPRE, as well as internal E&P company presentations on topics such as reserves and reservoir modeling and numerical modeling in general. He was a Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE) Distinguished Lecturer for the 2016-2017 tour season. In 2018 Rietz was named the University of Houston, Cullen College of Engineering, Distinguished Alumnus. Dean currently teaches a two-day simulation course for the SPE and is an adjunct professor of reservoir simulation at the University of Houston, both since 2001. He is a member (and past chair) of the Petroleum Engineering Industry Advisory Board at the University of Houston. Dean is an active member of the SPE and the Society of Petroleum Evaluation Engineers (SPEE) and is a registered professional engineer in Texas.
